Lunch Box Locker on rear Dana 35
I have a 95XJ Sport that has no LSD as they ran out of Trak Lok LSDs in the factory that year.
If I buy a Lunch box locker and get it installed, will I know it is there in normal road driving conditions with Full Time 4WD engaged? Do these type of lockers generate any noise, vibration in the rear diff only?
I am on the OEM tyre size of 225/75/15 and I am generally not in the business of rock crawling etc (I also have a JK). I just do the trails with the kids and take the XJ on longer trips due to its current mods, and want a reliable and hardly noticeable solution to make up for the fact I have no rear LSD.
I understand that Dana 35s can fail in offroad conditions with lockers and big wheels. Would this also be true with an OEM size wheel/tyre combo, and trails? Are there any downsides to having one of these lunch box lockers versus an air leaker etc. I suspect that they are benign (and hardly noticeable), except when there is a rear wheel off the ground.
What is your experience? Is there a particular brand that is better than others? What is the maintenance like?
