Default 3 Speed Auto Transmission Mods

Hi Folks,

I'm doing some major work on my TJ atm and have a few questions about the tranny.

I've removed the oil cooler from the radiator core to run an external cooler... I'm tossing up between the [B&M] BM70264 and the BM70297 transmission cooler kits.. The first is passively cooled but is a stacked plate design and more robust offroad - only about 1.5" thick too. The 70297 is almost three times the cost and uses standard fin and pipe cooling so will not be as robust offroad but it includes an active 9.5" cooling fan. It's also 3.5" thick so i'm not sure if it will fit between radiator and grille. Price isn't an issue, I just want the best option. My radiator and engine are out of the car at the moment so I can't take measurements to know if the latter will fit. What do you think?

Also I hear of a mod for a transmission breather that you can install to avert an issue some people have but I don't know too much about it - anyone have an idea?

Regards,

Mopud

i run a generic oil cooler.

hope you can see the cooler in between the radiator and grill in the pic.

but i still have the transmission out hose still connected to the radiator cooler then into the 2nd cooler then back to transmission.

The breather mod is here: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...automatic+vent

You will need to take the trans out of the jeep to do the breather mod.

Of course mate, it's already out. No engine and no tranny while work is being done. I want to take advantage of the situation and do it while I can..

Cheers fil

Thanks, it will be interesting to see your pics.

Is the pirate4x4 link not suitable for my 3 speed? I'm yet to have a look at mine but i imagine it's pretty much the same .. ?
