Ok, have come on board on this one a little late!
Am I correct in assuming that RedGP has sold his jeep for a lot less than he was hoping and bought a LC200?
It does boggle the mind to think what is going on. As I see it, NO 4WD in production at the moment is built from the factory floor to handle the miles of Aussie Roads, particularly dragging 1,500kg's of CT behind it. Have you seen underneath a LC200? I mean really, it's a big, heavy ROAD CAR, it's not king offroad. The only thing that comes close is a Patrol, HOWEVER you have to take your chances on that little 3L Hand Grenade that Nissan call an engine.
Let's be real, 4WD's now are built to a budget, and that means skimping on componentry when they can because only a small majority of 4wders actually use them offroad! Our challenge (our being the people who actually use their 4WD's) is to upgrade the componentary to take the stress's of day to day outback travel, or hell, even day to day offroading!
The thing that blows my mind is, having gone through all this process and the extensive strengthening/bracing and improving he has done to his vehicle, he turns around and sells it? Doesn't make sense.
I know I won't recieve a premium for my mods when I sell it, which is why I modded it in the first place, I intend to hold onto it for at least 7-8 years.
If you were going to turn around and sell it in 3, with those sorts of miles, you would leave it stock IMHO

After 3 years and 130,000klms we had had enough, the fan on the dash blows red dirt in our face , the radio has stopped working for the 10th time, both diffs are leaking and the rear diff has a whine, we have a shaking steering wheel, one headlight keeps failing, the welds on the tailgate have given way and we are hearing a lot more clunks and creaks from the body. The engine is even starting to use oil between changes.
Its time, we are getting to old for all the troubles, we understand our new Landcruiser will not go where the JK went, but we are looking forward to the extra comfort and believe it may be a little more reliable.
We will see as we leave tomorrow to pick it up in Brisbane.
PS we have not sold the JK we are parking it in a shed in Kalgoolie and going to use it when we go gold prospecting once or twice a year.

Hey Red Im suprised your CRD is using all ! what oil did you run. My has done 135,000 and is still not drinking a drop. Be a shame if they drop this motor from the Jeep as I reckon its a gem.

Mine uses a bit of oil in between services.
I'd be concerned if it didn't with the way I drive it sometimes.

We were advised by the service manager at Wanneroo Jeep to use Penrite 0 right from day 1 and have used it ever since (Penrite recently changed it to 0-40 environ) cahnged every 50000 - 7000 klms and it never used any between changes. but the 112,klm, the 119,klm and the 126,klm it had used a litre between changes and the lastchange it has used a little more than a litre. There is no evidence of burning oil and since adding a trans cooler, the EGTguage and the DP chip it is running a lot better, better fuel economy and stronger up hill with little change to the EGT. So we are a little surprised at the oil use.
Some here will blame the DP chip or the hard use of "towing the ten ton trailer along with the ten ton of gear we load her up with" but in reality (and proven with weigh bridge dockets) we tow a 1.1 ton trailer (gross - fully loaded) and the JK weighs in a little under 2.25 ton fully loaded so we have think we have not been too hard on it.
But not to worry, it will have a easy life "out to pasture".

steve, try a 4" lift on the toyota. should make it a handy off road truck. only things slowing it down offroad are the vehicle weight (really fat tyres fix that) and a 4" lift will make up for the independant suspension and initial low clearance. good luck, dave
