Just had another play with the display and it only changes the left hand units. The odometer and trip meters in the right hand side are fixed in km.

I've booked it in to the stealer for a checkup, we'll see what the apprentice has to say on Thursday.

And I grabbed an iCar 3 with wifi, apparently these work alright and they have auto shutoff after 30 minutes.
I nearly bought one of the basic Bluetooth ones and was just going to use the misses android for diagnostics (I don't really plan on using this every day for duplicating the instruments already on the dash). But then I figured with the wifi version I can use either my iPhone or android if the app for Apple is as bad as they say it is when compared to TORQUE.

I bought it from an Aus seller, but unfortunately the scanner won't get here before it goes in for a check up. I would have been interested to do a before and after test to see if they actually did anything.

The mystery continues....

Apparently no codes came up at the dealers.
They agreed it drives fine and there's no obvious problems.
Apparently they're going to log the issue with FCA, but we all know that means SFA.

My scanner should be here on Monday, so I'll just keep an eye on things with that.
And I'm going to log the km for the next couple of tanks using the odometer instead of the trip meter, just in case that is what's playing up.

I too had similar issues that 3 or 4 trips to dealer could not resolve and they always said working fine. Mine was intermittent, prob ever 2nd or 3rd tank. Long story short I used the Torque app and discovered excess fuel being pushed to one bank (was monitoring fuel trim). More testing revealed strange intermittent responses from one O2 sensor.

Turned out to be the wiring from the O2 sensor rubbing on a firewall heat shield and intermittently shorting to earth telling the computer one bank was running super lean so it was pushing as much fuel as the fuel trim would allow to that bank.

I actually found your post about that in the 'flashing ECU' thread just the other night and thought it sounded like a possible answer for my issue.

There will only be 1 trip to the dealer for me, just wanted to get the issue logged on their system in case there was more dramas later on and needed anything done under warrantee.

Just about to head off for a couple of nights in the bush now, so we'll see how the fuel usage goes with some highway kms this arvo then a bit of low-range work over the weekend.

Well I think I found the problem, my JK hates the city...

I ran a number of scans with the Vgate scanner and got no error codes.
I set up a custom dash with all fuel systems info, nothing really jumped out at me to say there was an issue.

Then we just did a road trip with 1,000km of highway driving.
The JK just had the driver and a tiny bit of luggage in it, the other car was a brand new diesel Triton (auto transmission and less then 10,000km on the clock) with a bit of gear in the tray and towing a small box trailer (less then 500kg all up).

Both cars used almost identical fuel between stops, on one leg the petrol JK was within 4L of the diesel Triton.
The overall average was around 12.1L/100km.
What a difference compared to the last 3 tanks of city driving!!

But now this has me thinking......

The misses really does drive like a granny. She hardly ever goes over 3,000rpm and in her 3km daily run to work she hardly gets out of 3rd gear.

We've both noticed that the throttle is extremely sensitive and it feels like about a third of the acceleration is in the first couple of mm of pedal travel.
So much so that's it's extremely difficult to drive steady in 1st gear low range. The throttle is really jerky and the slightest bump sends the car shooting off.
I've owned several 4wds, both diesel and petrol, this is by far the most sensitive pedal I've ever felt.

So,
Now I'm wondering if there's any chance the car has been tuned by the previous owner?
And this super sensitive throttle is making it dump tones of fuel into it every time you tap the pedal when doing stop/start driving around town.....????

I know there are various throttle 'boosters' offering all sorts of tuning options to help your car feel more responsive. But as far as I know these all use a control module that would be easy to spot and I can't see anything out of the ordinary on our car.

If there is one, it may be hidden behind the panel beneath the steering wheel but as they plug into the cabling at your pedal, one look there would tell you.

I had the same issue in my XJ on the way to the Melbourne Jambo in 2010, worked out it would be cheaper to get a cab there!!!. Pulled over and swapped the front and rear O2 sensors and that resolved it, fuel consumption back to normal. It was throwing no codes and the scangauge showed nothing either.

Cheers
Steve
