I think you're right. Traditionally, CC controls the accelerator, not the brake. In the automatic cars I've had, deceleration is done by the car downshifting gears...or by the driver applying the brake.

Jeep's adaptive CC seems to control both the accelerator and the brake, using data from multiple forward sensors to fine tune the car's speed in traffic.

My KL TH doesn't have adaptive CC. It will go >10kph over set speed before downshifting, especially if it's in Auto mode and up in 7th or 8th gear.

I've noticed that in Sports mode at 110, the car never goes above 6th gear. So the car doesn't run away downhill as much and downshifting is more responsive. The car stays much closer to the set CC speed. And I avoid all those nasty demerit points

Default Cruise Control

I have been thinking about cruise control over running set speed by 10-20+KPH when going down a hill, My WK2, Ford territory, Subaru Outback, EL Ford falcon never had this problem, a couple of km over is acceptable. I feel that FCA should recognise the lack of CONTROL in their cruise control and fix the problem, the flash for cash lads park themselves at the bottom of hills. Of course once you touch the brake CC disengages and you need to press the resume button, it's getting to be a real PITA. what do you other owners think?.

Yeh my non adaptive cruise is pretty ordinary, tends to over speed which is not good when we have a revenue raising procedure in place. Great fuel economy OP, if I had my purchase over again I'd get the petrol donk. Diesel is great for towing but I can't imagine that the petrol would be very far behind.

I wasn't aware TrailHawk,s had adaptive cruise control, I have the same issues with the speed overun. It just keeps changing down gears untill the speed drops back, as others have said it can end up 15kph or more over the set speed at times and the engine is revving its tits off.

My TH has the adaptive cruise and going downhill it applies the brakes when more than 2kmh over the set speed.

It's disappointing that non adaptive cruise isn't essentially the same as adaptive minus the distance holding - but clearly it's VERY no-frills - ie. only modulates throttle - so not very precise in holding speed and useless on downhills
