im now of the opinion in my case that its the upper spring perch/mount

the upper coils are wrapped in some sort of plastic tubing but its all brittle and coming off.
I think you'll find the top of the coils are wrapped in something similar to this:
https://www.google.com.au/shopping/p...E,gclsrc:aw.ds

I'd be spraying the tops of the coils/coil seats with some lanolin spray grease then taking it for a drive to see if that settles it down.
If that doesn't work try spraying the bottom coil seats & taking it for a drive.

Cheers

Whether this would happen to the rubber bush in the rockauto one once the shock top nut and washer were tensioned down would be interesting to see.
John.
Mate I honestly don't know, I do know that there's a fine line between not having the nut tight enough where then it will just flog out the bush to having it too tight and the bush destroys itself or mount breaks, over the years on various vehicles I have changed bushes, made my own, changed washer types, put sleeves on the bolts to improve fit, its basically a trial and error and at times where I thought the problem was it wasn't..... even good quality gear sometimes doesn't quite fit right...

Measure your heights from centre of hub to bottom of guard, they should be within 5mm of each other side to side, the original for a Laredo 3lt was front 489mm and rear 512mm........of course adding stuff drops them down a bit.

yep, replaced the end links with greesable ones,

the rubber bush on the bar is actually bonded/moulded to the bar and the saddle is then bonded to the bush

its an assembly, its impossible to move it once unbolted.

ok so my "clunk" may not be the same as others experience, but after all I've tried and to have no improvement is frustrating to say the least.

however going out on a limb i decided to break off as much of the insulating tubing around the upper rear coils, it was already breaking up and coming adrift

the upper coils are slightly smaller in diameter than the lower section, so variable rate with the upper portion soaking up small bumps.

and I'm not yet convinced but in my case doing this has dramatically reduced the "clunking" i was getting.

its a pain with all the suspension arms to get a clear shot at removing the tubing fully.

what set me off down this path is that on my drive way (acreage) there is a point where the rear flexes and there is occasionally a twang like a spring unloading,

so time will tell.

im tempted now to get replacement after market rear springs, although it doesn't look like a simple task to RnR.

thanks

Hi All
I have a 2011 diesel and had the rear noise from pickup, I tried everthing to fix even sent emails to Jeep USA and the shock manufacturer (who did reply)
I had the recall done (around 2013) and no issues since.

Have you had a Good look at the rubber mounts that holds the rear suspension cradle to body, there are four of them, check the difference in them with the car jacked up by the body and again with it jacked up by the wheel or suspension and just see the difference.
