Thats a good advice, I already organized a couple of appropriate fuses.
The alternator delivers 2.2 Kw. That‘s about 180A. Since this starter current will flow only during a short period, but current can rise during cold outside temps, a proper ANL fuse and a remote high power relay seems to be adequate.
Wiring diameter must match.
OE wiring to the alternator is pretty hefty, looks like 90mm2. And thats only about a meter or two.
I do see the risk in a short. If the battery is fully charged it can easily deliver 4- 5000A short circuit current. So the wiring must be fail safe. There is no fire extinguisher handling that current.

I just did some reading on the C30 CDI AMG engine. What a beast! Let us all know how things go.

First things first. Ordered a special Custom 3 row radiator today.
About 173.000 additional BTU‘s have to be cooled!
The intercooler scares me a bit- it‘s huge and might be need some special routing too.
I‘m happy that I can delete the factory intercooler. That space is required for the radiator, it‘s almost one inch thicker.
It‘s bothering me a bit- so many calculations to perform. I need to provide 1.6 lbs/ min of fuel and 420 CFM of air minimum to reach the base numbers of 231hp. Plus a wee extra as a reserve for later expansions.

After removing the coolant bottle, I was able to find the rubber seal for the firewall cable hole(remember it‘s a left hand drive). It took some time, because I had to remove together with the coolant expansion bottle also the Webasto engine coolant heater,(a bit visible to the right) I will remove the original starter cables and replace them with a full length of appropriate wire directly to the new battery location in the rear.
