Maybe something with the shifter. Does it work correctly in lower gears?
Yes the dash show's 4 when the tow button is depressed, shifter seems to work perfectly through the gears.

Hi. Been inspecting a WH Grand to buy and have a couple issues I would like some advice on

* Aircon needs regassing - obviously leaking what would the average cost be to replace a filterdryer and regas?

* Oil leaks from transmission and won't select into 4Lo. "Service 4WD system" flashes. - Not sure if issues is serious or just a seal.

* There is a light clunk sound coming from rear diff when gas pedal is reapplied. In particular after turning a corner. - Any serious issues there or just diff lash taking up?

Other than these 3 issues, vehicle operates nicely. Did notice Combined fuel usage was 14.7L/100 but I think was just to only being driven short distances last few days.

Thanks in advance.

Is the oil leak coming from the bell housing region if so you need to confirm if it's red AT fluid or if it's thin black engine oil. It is common to have engine oil slowly work it's way down from the turbo area between the V6 valley on top. If it's this it's not a big problem. If it's red Auto Trans fluid then it's a big problem to fix and just run away.

The diff or drive shaft clunk also sounds serious as there should be no noise there. It many need a new diff or rebuild, it's unlikely it's a loose drive shaft. Or there's a problem with the transfer case but I've never heard of this issue. Or I'm wondering if it's the front diff mounts torn which is very common and give a clunk noise on take off or sudden acceleration. Torn front diff mounts are an easy fix but a bit fiddly.

Service 4wd could be many things such as simple as wheel speed sensor but more than likely the Jeep N23 recall fix has stuffed up the car shifting into low. You can read heaps about this on this WH Grand threads. http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...d.php?t=128329
Try removing fuse #25 as a simple test fix.

Aircon issue - I'm not sure but could be simple

Be warned if you need to rely on a Jeep mechanic to do the repairs it will cost you a big fortune however if you're handy and good at mechanical work you can do most jobs very cheaply as parts are extremely cheap ex the USA.

I'd be making sure this car was very cheap with such unknown and possibly major issues

You haven't said which engine or year model? There are different G/Boox's in the V8's & CRD's. From 2008 QuadraDrive became an option & the diffs are different. Amount of Km travelled?
I am assuming CRD by fuel consumption so my answers are CRD related.

Could be anything from a failed compressor to a leak. Air-con is air-con so price should be no more expensive then any other car.
Do the dash controls still switch from screen to vent to floor on both driver & passenger sides? If not it could be a blend door failure.

* Oil leaks from transmission - Not sure if issues is serious or just a seal.
The electrical connection to the G/Box is known to leak, a$50 fix if you can do it yourself. Its not hard.
and won't select into 4Lo. "Service 4WD system" flashes.
Has most likely had the first N23 update & not the newest update, as multihull said Try removing fuse #25 start the engine, engage drive then reverse & back to park. Refit fuse & 4Lo should work.

Never heard of diff problems other then the solenoids in the QuadraDrives, as per the previous post the most likely cause is the drive shaft Uni/CV (Americans call them Prop Shafts) & front diff mounts/bush's

Other than these 3 issues, vehicle operates nicely. Did notice Combined fuel usage was 14.7L/100 but I think was just to only being driven short distances last few days.

Thanks in advance.

Hi. I couldn't find this thread as didn't get any notifications on activity. Anyway, so I made the plunge (excuse the pun, hope it's not going to be so) and bought it.

● 2007 WH Grand
● QuadraDrive2
● 3.0 TDV6
● 137,000klms
● Complete service history
● Was garaged/stationary for past 2 years due to deceased estate.
● 4Lo issue was a fuse.
● Oil leak is trans fluid coming from the transfer case. It's not a fast leak but there is a leak nonetheless. Engine and transmission are clean.
● "Clunking sound" as you stated before, when applying power off idle the drivetrain takes up slack and a light clunk at rear diff.
●Driving feels good, trans works well in all modes, vehicle pulls like a scalded cat.

Definitely needs a service/oils replaced as has had the same oil in past 5000klms but has been in there for 2 years due to being garaged. So oil is well and truly passed its serviceable date

About all I know right now.

Talking Welcome

The N23 Recall started back in 2013 so its a good chance it has had the recall, it will need to go to the dealer to be updated with the latest update to prevent the no low range from returning. Not all dealers know about the latest P73 – Reprogram Final Drive Control Module info below
http://www.wkjeeps.com/recalls/CSN_p73.pdf
Here is a quote from a Jeep service tech that has been more then helpful with the N23 saga.

OIIIIIIIO
Since that is required you might as well take a hit to the bank account & get the dealer to change the fluid's & filters as well as quote on the diff issue.

Now its time to post some pic's here.

Thanks. Will be seeing Jeep tomorrow about it all. I bought it as my daily driver/alrounder. I wanted something more comfy than a 76 series Landcruiser V8, so decided to try a Grand as they offer a lot for the money. So far I am wrapped with the ride quality. I would like a nice GQ ute as well for the rough stuff later on but for now I have decided to have only one vehicle that is a comfy daily rather than a toy. But we'll see... I get bored easily and before I know it, it'll be modded to the gills. But trying hard at the present to keep it simple.
