Default Engine conversion to XJ cherokee

Hey guys need some opinions , ive been thinking for a while now to swap 4.0 petrol engine to 2.7 CRD diesel out of WG Grand cherokee. I know its easier to buy wg with crd in it and dont bother but i love my xj and there is a lot of custom work been done to it !!! spent around 20k just on mods . So my plan is to buy WG complete from the damaged car auctions and swap engine , tranny , wiring , ecu , radiaotrs etc.... into XJ . Ive tried to find any information if somone had done that before but had no luck. Engine bay looks fairly the same size and motor weights about the same as 4.0 . What you guys thinking about? anyone has any onfo about or know someone who has done it ? Cheers

well mostly the fuel economy plus reliability i am planning trip to desert for few weeks by end of the year and not sure how petrol engine will perform plus it takes around 25 litres to a 100klms! in saying that there is not many petrol station in there and if there is most of them are diesel anyway .

Will take quite a few years of lower fuel consumption to even break even on the cost of the conversion. Like Deezel suggested, get some Jerry cans. Oh and find yourself a long range tank too.
