Default Turbo Timer and UHF

Ok, need some ideas

Does anyone know if (a) a Turbo Timer is worth the money and (b) who makes one to suit the JK Deisel.

Also I can't seem to see an obvious place for a UHF Radio in the Dash, any ideas?

Thanks

I will post a picture of my UHF.

Turbo timer is a no go.... I went to get one fitted, they had it apart and the vehicle runs some sort of flash new wirig system that runs lots of signals in one wire. they said its technology normally only in Mercs,BMW,Audi's etc.

Its a pain because the wife likes just switching off(always running late )

Up where the driver's knees fit there is a panel that can be unclipped with a shelf behind it. Not sure what is supposed to go there but on mine it is empty. I was going to get one of these: http://www.gme.net.au/land/transceivers/tx3440.php

Or this with the TX3400: http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...ad.php?t=69666

and turbo timers are illegal to use unattended and your insurance will probably void you policy if you have an issue because of it.

I have had a few turbo cars - and I have found the reality is this:
If you have been using the turbo by the time you turn you street corner, slow down for the driveway etc you have not used 'boost' so coolant and oil flow through the housings have done exactly what a timer is intended to do.

If you have been towing or high speed driving, then let it sit for a couple of minutes before turning off, I would assume this wouldnt be often for many people.

Dont be too concerned with timers the real world need for them is fairly low.

other option which i plan on trying isthe GME TX4600 above the rear view mirror and im making a post for the ant. between the tailgate and spare so that it sits above the roofline. or you coukld mount the unit on the dash above the stereo.

A transport company in nsw about 10 years ago [they had about 400 trucks] told their drivers to shut the trucks down when they stoped instead of using the turbo timers. After 4 or 5 years they had only had 2 or 3 turbo failurs and saved thousands of $ in fuel [i can't remember the exact amount but it was a lot of money saved]

drew - your comments RE the space above the stereo.

Once the 'new car smell' wears off, I plan to make a pod to fit a DIN sized fold out screen to house a DVD/GPS unit there. Once I get it up an running I'll post pics. I also plan to incorporate a UHF radio - but probably a remote face unit like the GME or unidens available (so its not so bulky.)
